Pythons have stranglehold on Florida Everglades ecosystem tells the bad news. Where the pythons have established, marsh rabbits and foxes cannot be found. Similarly raccoons and white deer are increasingly scarce.
The small mammals and birds of the Florida ecosystem have no natural fear of the large snakes because the pythons are a foreign invader. They may succeed in killing the ecosystem, something the sugar plantation owners didn't quite succeed.
A recent study suggests that the pythons may not stop at the Florida Everglades, but could slither all the way through the south.
Mmm. I wonder whether they could eat kudzu, which is also a foreign invader.
