I have to confess - I really like bacon. Perhaps not with ice cream, but I do like it as a topping on many foods. I am dismayed by some recent news - Big fry up could cause cancer. According to data from the World Cancer Research Fund, eating 150 grams of processed meat a day (such as bacon or sausage) increases the risk of cancer by 2/3. Wikipedia tells us that 1 slice of bacon is 29 grams uncooked, and 8 grams cooked, with a whopping 43 calories.
We'll stick with our fry-ups tells that in the U.K., news about bacon is being scorned because of the love of the traditional English breakfast. A professor at Nottingham University pointed out that the traditional breakfast is less than 50 grams of processed meat, so the 150 grams stated in the study, is well, a little piggy.
However, from the leading edge of civilization - Los Angeles, we find the government is cracking down on bacon. Street Food in Peril: LA Cracking Down on Bacon Hot Dogs tells that the LA health department has determined that bacon cannot be properly cooked on the street. Hence, they are shutting down street stands selling the street favorite - hot dogs wrapped in bacon. That just sounds dangerous, doesn't it?
